Committee Member Sought to Help Reduce Pesticide Use on Contra Costa Properties

What:

The Contra Costa Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Advisory Committee is seeking applicants to fill one vacant environmental organization seat. The 12-member committee advises the County Board of Supervisors on issues involving pest management and pesticide use on County-owned and County-maintained properties.

Who:

Applicants must live or work in Contra Costa County, have knowledge of IPM practices, and represent an environmental organization that is either a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization.

How:

Applications can be obtained by:

  • Calling the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at 925-335-1900
  • Writing or visiting the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at 651 Pine Street, first floor, Martinez, CA 94553
  • Downloading an application at contra.napanet.net/maddybook/ (click on "Application Procedures")

Applicants must attach a letter of support from the organization they intend to represent. Completed applications must be postmarked by February 2, 2011.

Why:

The IPM Committee is part of an extensive effort to reduce the use of toxic chemicals on Contra Costa County property. The committee is tasked with reviewing pest management practices at facilities, landscaping areas, roads and flood control channels owned or operated by the County.
